Seasons in Glenwood Springs

As summer approaches, our rivers and streams swell in anticipation of that first river rider; shop owners begin sprucing up their properties with colorful baskets of summer flowers. In summer, our small community bustles with visitors anxious to catch that perfect white water rapid, scale the sheer rock cliff face, explore local history, fish our Gold Water rivers and streams, explore the underground wilderness of our caves and soak away their cares in the healing waters of the mineral hot springs. Lodging options abound ranging from large hotel chains, charming B&Bs, to Mom & Pop properties. Diners can please their palates with everything from the traditional, to select ethnic cuisine, to mountain-top dining with a view! Shopping in the historic downtown area offers some of the same options with eclectic shops and wares.

And then there's fall. We call it 'mellow time'. The days are warm and the evenings edged with a crispness of what's to come. The explosion of color that marches down the mountainsides in the fall makes for excellent day-tripping along the many picturesque highways and byways - a perfect setting for picnicking or photo shoots. Fall also brings an influx of hunters in search of a trophy deer or elk - and they usually find them! .

Around Thanksgiving you begin to feel a change not only in the air as temperatures fall, but in the locals as well, as they gear up for our second season - Skiing! We call it 'white gold'; as skiers arrive on trains, planes and automobiles.
